The HENDL Electric Coil Tong is a motorized below-the-hook lifting attachment designed for controlled lifting and handling of horizontally positioned steel and metal coils using overhead cranes. With lifting capacities up to 50 metric tonnes and a coil width range of 300–2,200 mm, it provides application-specific handling solutions for steel mills, metal service centres and processing facilities. Capacities, dimensions and operating requirements beyond the published range can be assessed through custom engineering.

Working Principle
The operator positions the Electric Coil Tong above the horizontally stored coil using an overhead crane. The gripping arms are opened and closed by remote control. Arm closing is permitted only after the coil centre has been detected, allowing engagement at the intended position. Limit switches restrict the closing travel of the arms to prevent excessive compression of the coil. Once the load is lifted, arm opening is inhibited. This operating arrangement supports controlled coil engagement, lifting and transfer.
Selection
Selecting the appropriate Electric Coil Tong requires the maximum coil weight, minimum and maximum widths, inside and outside diameters, centre of gravity, storage arrangement, clearance between adjacent coils, crane hook dimensions, available headroom and operating duty cycle. The 50-tonne capacity and 300–2,200 mm width range describe the product family; the suitable configuration is determined for each load and dimensional combination. Custom applications can be engineered for requirements outside these ranges.
Optional features and custom engineering
Motorized rotation is available as an optional feature for the Electric Coil Tong. Project-specific engineering can also address lifting capacities above 50 tonnes, coil widths outside the published range, alternative crane interfaces and special operating requirements. The final configuration is established according to the load characteristics and the customer's handling process.
