Product introduction
The HENDL Container Spreader is engineered for lifting and handling laden ISO freight containers beneath a crane using four twistlocks that engage the container top corner castings. The product family covers engineered configurations up to 45 tonnes; higher loads require separate engineering. Fixed-frame spreaders can be designed individually for 20 ft (approximately 6.10 m) and 40 ft (approximately 12.19 m) containers. Mechanical semi-automatic, electrically actuated and hydraulically actuated twistlock arrangements are distinct variants—not a combined standard feature set on every unit.
Standard Capacity And Dimensions
Up to 45 t is the maximum stated design capacity for the P026 product family; it does not establish the WLL of the particular 20 ft unit shown in the existing images or of every variant. Fixed 20 ft and fixed 40 ft frames are separate designs: a fixed 20 ft unit does not automatically handle a 40 ft container. Electric or hydraulic telescoping between lengths is a separately engineered option, not a feature of the fixed-frame version. Twistlock actuation, lock feedback, guidance systems and safety interlocks are configuration-specific. Crane lifting capacity and the container’s permissible gross mass must be assessed independently. No unverified certification, warranty or completed test is claimed.
Working Principle
The fixed-frame spreader is aligned above the four top corner castings of a compatible container length. Each ISO twistlock enters its respective corner fitting and is secured through the locking sequence appropriate to the specified model: mechanical semi-automatic, electric or hydraulic. The load path runs from the approved corner castings through the twistlocks and spreader structure to the crane suspension. A semi-automatic design may use the crane lowering and lifting sequence to operate its locks; powered models can incorporate lock-position sensing. The locks must not release while the load is suspended. Unlocking is permitted only when the container is securely supported and the load has been removed from the spreader.
Selection
Selection depends on container ISO type and length, actual gross mass, load centre of gravity, top corner-casting condition, crane hook configuration and available headroom. Four upper sling legs connected to a crane are not the same components as the four twistlocks that attach the spreader to the container. Single- or dual-hook suspension, fixed or movable alignment guides, open-air exposure and lifting duty are engineered to suit the application. Mechanical lock indicators and sensor-based confirmation belong to different specified control arrangements.
Twistlock actuation, suspension and engineered options
Separate fixed-frame spreaders can be engineered for 20 ft and 40 ft containers, with mechanically semi-automatic locking cycles, a manually operated custom variant, or dedicated electric or hydraulic twistlock actuation. According to the chosen configuration, options include mechanical lock indications, sensor-confirmed lock engagement, landing detection, lift interlocks, loss-of-power safeguards, fixed or movable guides, audible/visual indications and control-system integration. Electric or hydraulic telescoping to serve both 20 ft and 40 ft positions, plus 45 ft or other non-standard lengths, requires a separately engineered unit and is not a standard capability of a fixed spreader. Single- or dual-hook suspension, four-leg sling sets, custom headblock interfaces, corrosion protection, service access and replaceable twistlocks, pins and bushings may also be specified.
Technical Figures For A Quote
For a technical quotation, provide ISO container type, 20 ft or 40 ft length, empty and fully laden gross mass, load distribution and centre-of-gravity conditions, and top corner-casting details. Specify the crane, single- or twin-hook configuration, hook dimensions, available lift height, headroom and preferred sling/headblock suspension. Include the required twistlock actuation method (semi-automatic, electric or hydraulic), mechanical or sensor-based lock indication, lifting duty, operating site and environment, alignment guides and any control-system integration needs.

Questions
Can one fixed container spreader lift both 20 ft and 40 ft containers?
No. P026 fixed spreaders for 20 ft and 40 ft containers are dimensioned as separate units. A fixed frame should never be assumed to fit both lengths. A spreader designed to change between the two lengths needs its own verified electric or hydraulic telescoping mechanism and load-rating assessment.
How do container spreader twistlocks engage and release?
Four ISO twistlocks engage the top corner castings of the container. A mechanical semi-automatic model can use the lowering and hoisting sequence to actuate the locks; electric and hydraulic versions use their respective drives. Lock status may be shown mechanically or checked through sensors in the specified variant. The locks must not release under a suspended load.
Does the 45-tonne rating apply to every container and spreader?
No. Up to 45 t describes the maximum design capacity of the product family, not the rated WLL of the pictured machine or every 20 ft or 40 ft version. An actual rating depends on the container gross mass, centre of gravity, fixed-frame design, suspension, crane and operating conditions. Higher capacities are subject to separate engineering.
