Product introduction
The HENDL Core-Gripping Paper Roll Lifter & Tilter is a mechanical handling attachment designed to engage suitable roll cores. It combines vertical lifting with a controlled 90° change of orientation for paper, cardboard and plastic film rolls. Rather than clamping the outer roll surface, the device grips a roll core whose strength and dimensions have been verified for the application. Interchangeable mandrel heads and application-specific mechanical arrangements allow the solution to be configured around the load and handling conditions.
A mechanical lifting attachment for core-gripping, vertically lifting and tilting paper, cardboard and plastic film rolls through 90° near the floor.
Standard Capacity And Dimensions
No universal dimensions are claimed. Core ID, roll OD and width are evaluated for each project.
Working Principle
The mandrel is inserted into a compatible roll core. Mechanical expanding jaws engage the inner core and the grip lock is checked. The roll is lifted and transported vertically by a hoist. A controlled transition between horizontal and vertical orientations is carried out close to floor level, transferring hoist movement through the articulated tilt arm. No separate electric or hydraulic tilt drive is used. Correct positioning of the manual arm-locking pin and the approved operating procedure are essential during the tilt cycle.
Selection
Application-specific roll inner diameter, outer diameter and width; interchangeable mandrel heads; crane-hook connection and available clearances; grip contact surfaces matched to the roll core material; capacity selection for the intended duty.
Configuration-dependent safety features and custom engineering
Transport is intended only in the approved vertical orientation, not with the load suspended horizontally or at an angle. The 90° turning sequence is performed near floor level. Mandrel engagement, arm locks, core strength, attachment geometry and operating steps must be validated for each application.
Mechanical expanding-jaw core-gripping mandrel; interchangeable mandrel heads; articulated tilt arm operated through hoist movement; mechanical grip lock; manual arm-locking pin; application-specific roll and hoist interfaces.
Paper and cardboard production; plastic film converting; roll storage and dispatch preparation; handling between pallets, workstations and machinery feed points.
Core gripping can reduce the space required for external roll-clamping arms. One attachment supports vertical lifting and a controlled 90° orientation change near floor level. The mechanical articulated arrangement removes the need for a dedicated tilt motor. Interchangeable heads accommodate different core sizes when properly selected.
The HENDL Core-Gripping Paper Roll Lifter & Tilter engages a roll core using a mechanical expanding mandrel, lifts the roll vertically and turns it through 90° close to the floor. Mandrel heads can be exchanged for compatible core sizes. Suspended angled transport is not an intended operation.

Questions
Which roll materials can it handle?
It is intended for paper, cardboard and plastic film rolls, subject to verification of core material, dimensions and load-bearing strength.
How does it grip the roll?
A mechanical expanding-jaw mandrel engages the inside of the roll core; the grip lock is checked before lifting.
Can a roll be tilted from horizontal to vertical?
Yes. The approved handling sequence allows a controlled 90° change of orientation close to floor level.
Does tilting require a dedicated motor?
No. The articulated tilt arm operates through movement of the hoist or crane.
May rolls be transported in an inclined position?
No. Transport is designed for the approved vertical orientation, not suspended angled or horizontal movement.
Can it accommodate different core diameters?
Interchangeable mandrel heads may be fitted for compatible core sizes. Each head/core combination must be checked.
What roll diameters and widths are supported?
No universal dimensions are claimed. Core ID, roll OD and width are evaluated for each project.
What mechanical locking is provided?
The selected configuration includes a mechanical grip lock and manual tilt-arm locking pin. Their operation must be validated for each model.
Is it suitable for any crane hook?
Not automatically. Hook interfaces, lifting clearance and operating space require a technical compatibility check.
Is the product covered by EN 13155?
EN 13155:2020+A1:2025 explicitly excludes expanding mandrels. Applicable conformity requirements must be assessed separately; no blanket EN 13155 claim is made.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide roll mass, core ID/OD, width, core material and wall thickness, hoist details, start/end orientation and duty frequency.
